Senior Consultant
Jim brings 30 +years of experience as a senior executive in the College, Professional School, Hospital and Religious sectors, plus service on the boards of non-profit organizations. He has extensive experience in capital campaigns, annual giving, major & planned gift solicitation, volunteer and board management, public affairs, and government & foundation relations.
Recently Jim has been serving as a consultant to the HeartBrothers Foundation, a non-profit formed in 2014, to assist families who are facing Heart Failure (HF) through financial grants and emotional support in New England. Jim’s focus with HeartBrothers Foundation has been on optimizing donor data systems and strategizing for national growth. He has also advised the founders on a strategy to publicize the rollout of their major initiative to provide housing for families of heart failure patients.
Jim served as the Executive Director for the Diocese of Fall River and led the transformation of the Foundation to Advance Catholic Education (FACE) from 2011 through 2018. In this capacity he planned and directed the Catholic Charities Appeal to three consecutive record-breaking campaigns and oversaw the growth of the FACE Foundation, doubling the charitable assets under management to more than $10 million. He led an aggressive effort to modernize communications strategies, initiated a planned giving marketing program, and substantially increased personal solicitation of individual donors both locally and across the nation. He initiated the use of social media and other digital strategies to improve and ease the process of communicating with prospective donors and grow support for the social ministries of the Diocese. Under his leadership, scholarship resources grew from $500,000 to more than $1.3 M in four years. Jim also served as a columnist for the Diocesan newspaper on matters of philanthropy, social justice and values.
Prior to his service in Fall River Jim worked for more than 20 years in various leadership capacities in the development offices of Nantucket Cottage Hospital, New England Baptist Hospital, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Suffolk University, the College of the Holy Cross and Fordham Law School. In addition, Jim has consulted with many nonprofit and startup firms in his capacity as a business development executive. His clients have included Galaxy Technologies, Alternatives Inc., Spectrum Health Systems, Commonwealth Legal Services, and several municipal libraries.
Jim received his A.B. degree in Economics/Urban Studies from Fordham University in 1977. He earned an MBA degree in Finance from the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham in 1986. He served in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps for two years in Newark, NJ, before returning to work in the Fordham admissions office in 1980. His volunteer service also includes participation on the boards or executive committees of: Heart Brothers Foundation, Northborough/Southborough Pop Warner, and the Jesuit Volunteer Corps: East Board. Jim’s team at Suffolk University was awarded a National Gold Medal from CASE for publication excellence in 1994 and has presented at CASE District I and ICSC conferences.
Jim is married with three adult sons and a daughter. He and his wife Anne, a nurse practitioner at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, live in Northborough, MA and are active in their community, their Parish, and with the Heart Brothers Foundation.
